The Fright Meter Awards are conducted annually and are the main reason the site was started. The horror genre is often largely ignored by the mainstream critics awards, so the Fright Meter Awards serve to recognize and honor the genre. We aim to select and nominate worthy films regardless of budget, means of release, or popularity. Browse our past nominees and winners and you will see a wide mix of films, from big budget extremely popular horror classics, to low budget, little know independent films.
Please note that the criteria for films to be nominated in a given year for a Fright Meter Award is that it must have had its UNITED STATES theatrical, DVD, or television release in the given calendar year. Some of the nominees in a given year were released overseas either in the prior year, or in some cases, two or three years earlier. We are concerned, for our awards, with when it was released in the United States.
